美国拟重新定义食品包装上的“健康”术语(图1)


美国食品专家认为,随着营养科学的发展,过去FDA比较重视脂肪总量,现在认为不是所有的脂肪都是类似的,有些脂肪对健康较为有利,其它则情况不一样。为了保证人们获得合适数量的不同营养成分,也要关注不同食品间的组合、混合以及饮食中的饮料问题。所以,FDA需要更新“健康”的定义,以便反映当今营养科学的发展。FDA将对此展开研究,并需要公众的帮助和参与。FDA需要聆听来自食品公司、营养专家、消费者的意见。


It’s FDA’s jobto make sure that terms like “healthy,” which many people rely on to make food choicesfor themselves and their families, are something that they can truly count on.And we’ve seen that the ability to include the claim “healthy” actuallyencourages food companies to produce healthier foods. Back in the 1990s, theagency used the best nutritional science available at that time to define what“healthy” meant. And so, over the past two decades, food packages could belabeled as healthy if they met certain criteria for the content of fat,saturated fat, sodium and cholesterol and contained certain minimum amounts ofnutrients like vitamins and minerals.
